Also known as  The Royal County of Berkshire the county is one of the oldest in the land, dating back  to 840. The county boundaries have altered so much over the past 200 hundred years you might be forgiven for not not knowing what towns the county contains. There have been six  unitary authorities governing the county since 1998, Bracknell Forest, Slough, West Berkshire, Reading, Woking and Windsor and Maidenhead.
