Pontesbury Public Hall description
Community Hall
Medium (1-150)
During the last 10 years, the Trustees have spent a great deal of money on upgrading the building (with assistance by means of grants from both local and national bodies), in order to keep the ravages of time at bay and comply with current legislation. Extra toilets and a stage lift have been provided for wheelchair users. All rooms have been renovated, climate control fitted in the main hall, new upholstered chairs purchased and a new staircase provided for safer access to the attic control room.
I believe you would agree that it is now looking much improved and a vital asset to us all. Our next project is a complete refurbishment of the toilet facilities.
Over this time we have gained five trustees and lost seven. Our average age is now over 70 and without “new blood” it is obvious that the running of the Hall cannot be assured in the long term. I am sure that you would agree what a tragic loss of amenity this would be for the village, should it be forced to close, due to lack of volunteers.
Although the work of a Trustee is by no means onerous it is of vital importance to the smooth operation and well being of the Hall, which was bequeathed to all villagers by
Dr Jameson some 88 years ago. We meet about every 10 weeks for about two hours.
So – what can you do to help?
I would urge that you attend the Annual General Meeting at 7:30 pm on Monday 25 November in the Len Simpson room at the Public Hall, where you will be made most welcome, and offer your services as a volunteer for 1 year with a view to becoming a Trustee next year.
