Summerlee Museum of Scottish Industrial Life description

Community Hall

Medium (1-150)

Welcome to Summerlee, the museum of Scottish industrial life in Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire. We are open seven days a week from 10am to 5pm (to 4pm during Nov - March). Admission is free.

Please note that we are closed on December 25 & 26 and January 1 & 2.

A Visit Scotland '4-star' rated visitor attraction, we had a £10 million redevelopment in 2008, including £5m from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

In 2012 we invested £100,000, including £80,000 from Museums Galleries Scotland, in a new covered display area for our key items of large engineering equipment. See link in the box on the right for full details - Summerlee Engineering Pavilion.

The main exhibition hall, created in the late 1980's from the former Hydrocon Crane works, now provides an excellent space for the museum's displays and working machinery, including a huge winding engine from the former Cardowan Colliery.

The exhibition hall also houses our cafe, fully-accessible toilets, a shop and meeting room. The room seats up to 30, has full audio-visual facilities and is available for hire.
