Whittington Castle - Oswestry
Whittington Castle - Whittington Castle
Whittington Castle description
Commercial Venue
Medium (1-150)
Welcome to Whittington Castle near Oswestry in Shropshire England. The strikingly picturesque and romantic ruins are steeped in much history, tales of bitter border warfare, romance and legend.
A small rural community in North Shropshire, England has acquired a 99 year lease to manage the Castle that sits in the centre of its village. The Trust is delighted to announce that a £1.5m project to repair and restore Whittington Castle has just been completed with the assistance of a £950k grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
We believe ours is the only Castle in the UK which is owned and run by a local community.
The existing Castle is set in about 12 acres of ground and is the remains of a Norman home.
Weddings
A fairy tale castle, ivy clad ruined walls, medieval moat complete
with majestic swans and a twin towered Gatehouse
entrance all await for your perfect day. Imagine
yourself walking up the drawbridge to your
fairytale wedding. Whittington Castle is
the perfect setting, a truly romantic venue with links
to Arthurian legend and the Holy Grail. Legend tells us
that the Holy Grail may at one time have been hidden
at this medieval fortress and for centuries the castle's
legends have been connected to stories of romance
and love.
The ideal backdrop for all of your photographs.
Whittington Castle is committed to providing a
first class service to all those wishing to book
a civil ceremony. With this in mind we will only ever
book one ceremony per day in order to give our
full attention to all those who book with us.
The Lady Eleanor Function Room is situated in the South tower and for many centuries this served as the manor courthouse. The room is named after Lady Eleanor who helped to turn the castle into a more comfortable home in the 14th century.
Luscious hand painted silk velvet, wall hangings adorn the walls. Created for the Lady Eleanor Room by Shrewsbury based textile designer, Meg Arrol.
