Clay Cross Social Centre description
Community Hall
Medium (1-150)
Clay Cross is a classic example of the industrial revolution. It grew from a small farming community into a dynamic industrial town, dominated by the Clay Cross Company. It’s development commenced with the driving of Clay Cross rail tunnel in 1837 where coal was found. George Stephenson, the famous railway engineer, decided to develop coal mining in the area.
With the demise of the coal mining industry and the closure of the Clay Cross Company, Clay Cross is changing to meet the demands of the modern world.
