Hotel / Conference Centre
Medium (1-150)
St Augustine's Church was constructed in 1868 in the Gothic style at a cost of £3,320. It was designed by
Mr W Bassett-Smith of Adelphi, London. It is built from local yellow brick with red brick bands and the roof is of grey slate with trellis pattern. The columns in the nave of the Church are of york stone and are in circular and octagonal shapes.
In 1997 the Church was linked to the Church Hall via an infill building at a cost of £380,000 and now enables numerous activities to be held over the week and meet the needs of the local community. A Dedication Ceremony took place with the then Lord Archbishop of Canterbury (George Leonard Carey) and a foundation stone laid.
Over more recent years both the Church roof and organ have been extensively repaired.
There is also a fully enclosed private rear garden with seated area - most useful for wedding & baptism photos.
Cultural provision: Library facilities; mission statement: open and affirming Church to those of other faiths and of no faith albeit seeking guidance.
Special diets: Fully equipped stainless steel kitchen to full hygiene standards.
Other specialist provision: Day Centre (3 days per week)managed by paid staff and volunteers. Full catering kitchen facilities supplying cooked meal. Easy access to building and toilets.
