The public conveniences at Llandrillo are situated at Y Wern, at the centre of the village. This facility was saved from demolition in 2002 by a community group initiative. A feasibility report was prepared encompassing a financial model to sustain the venture for a 20 year period to 2025.The facility was opened on 20th August 2005, village carnival day, and has remained open every day since that date, except for those days that have been so cold it has frozen the pipe throughout the building. The group work in teams who operate a cleaning regime from Monday to Sunday each week throughout the year, including Christmas Day. There are 25 volunteers who operate the weekly rota with duties including opening, closing, cleaning and general maintenance. The facility provides both male and female plus disabled access fully DDA compliant.Without a sound financial base and the volunteer teams, these toilets would have long since fallen into disrepair; now it is an essential part of the village. The feasibility report back in 2002 highlighted the potential for increased visitor numbers to the village because of the facility. This has been born out with ramblers groups from the Wirral, North West and West Midlands of England who travel by coach. We have ample parking, great places to walk and explore, great toilets, a village shop and the Dudley Arms to look after you once your back from your roaming exercises. This venture has been unique in its approach to the general decline of the public toilet facilities in village communities throughout the UK and continues to provide an essential service for all those who need it. Letters of appreciation are regularly received from visitors who state their appreciation for very clean and well kept facilities.The closure of toilet facilities is continuing throughout Wales and the group have given guidance to other communities how to get their facilities up and running.
