Thirlmere Recreation Hall description
Village Hall
Medium (1-150)
When Thirlmere was created, Manchester Corporation acquired all the
land in the surrounding area.
One such act on their part in 1942 was to bring to Thirlmere the Recreation Hall, formerly a Mission Church at Haweswater which became
redundant when work ended on the reservoir there.
The Thirlmere Recreation Hall has since been a centre for community
meetings and activities and was refurbished at a cost
of over £60,000 and much voluntary labour from parishioners.
It is used by community groups but is also available for meetings
of outside organisations, and even for overnight stays.
