Originally a traditional black and white 17th Century farmhouse, The Fountain Inn first became a beer and cider house back in 1855 but was known then as The Hippodrome (meaning Racetrack) in recognition of the horse racing that used to take place on the Oldwood Common adjacent to the pub. As a coach house and cider mill it would serve the drovers with their herds on their way to market in England from their lush feeding grounds of the welsh hills.



With a history spanning four centuries it is hardly surprising that there are many interesting stories connected to The Fountain Inn. Most notably we can lay claim to being a haunted pub! Mr. Thombs, a previous Landlord who died while saving his dogs from a fire at the pub in 1958 is still in residence at The Fountain Inn and is the friendly ghost that occasionally haunts the pub!
