Proprietors Arthur and Janette bought the freehold of The Rose and Crown in 2004. Of early 18th century origins it is believed by 1730 it was a pub known as The Crown and by 1740 as The Rose and Crown. To avoid confusion with neighbouring pubs of the same name, to create a unique identity and to pay tribute to the finest cavalry regiment in the British army, in which Arthur served, the pub became The Horse Guards in 2011.
