Welcome to The Anchor
A little bit about us:

After a decade with our hard-working team, we have revitalised The Anchor into an award-winning inn and restaurant-with-rooms.
We are fortunate to be in the charming village of Walberswick across the footbridge from the market town of Southwold.

Back in the summer of 2004 (how time flies, that was ten years ago), sitting on the warm sunny beach we were easily convinced to buy the lease on this potentially lovely but bedraggled arts-and-crafts 1920s Adnams pub and set about restoring its fortunes.

We wanted to create a village local that would be both family friendly and a welcome retreat for all who enjoy good conversation, food and drink.
Great effort is put into enthusiastically sourcing fine ingredients, local and global beers as well as flavoursome characterful wines.
Our ten bedrooms including six lovely garden chalets offer convenience and comfort as a bolthole for R & R and the beach on your doorstep.

Back in 1981, Mark, with Sally Cruickshank, revived the fortunes of The White Horse (aka 'The Sloaney Pony') at Parson's Green at the heart of Fulham and twice named the national Pub of The Year, affectionally named 'Beer Central’.
Mark is co-founder of The Beer Academy, equivalent of the Wine & Spirit Education Trust. Here at The Anchor, we have some amazing craft ales, an array of well-kept Adnams Southwold draught from cask and craft keg plus over 50 bottles of imported beers from around the globe.
Sophie and her family have long connections with the Suffolk coast where her maternal grandmother retired to paint close by. Having cooked in London at the likes of the Chelsea Arts Club, Sophie ran the food franchise at the Aldeburgh yacht club in the early Nineties and went globe-trotting with location catering home and abroad (Star Wars in Tunisia and Les Misérables in Prague).

The flint barn at the side of the Anchor has been converted into another space for eating, private parties, events, conferences and celebrations. We equipped the barn with underfloor heating as well as a drop-down screen and projector for business meetings and presentations. It has been put to good use in the cause of village-based charity fundraising projects as well as seasonal beer festivals and art exhibitions.
