Lower Buckton B & B and Self Catering description
Hotel / Conference Centre
Medium (1-150)
Welcome to Lower Buckton Country House. A special place to stay in Mortimer Country on the north Herefordshire/south Shropshire borders where England meets Wales.
Bed and breakfast with dinner……….
The pretty hamlet of Buckton is an ancient settlement with origins from Roman times and there’s a historic corn-mill whose stream is recorded in Doomsday. Even now, it’s still just a few houses and cottages clustered above the water meadows of the meandering river Teme.
Lower Buckton was once the principal farm in this early settlement and today is the home to Henry and Carolyn Chesshire. Their friendly hospitality welcomes guests off the beaten track to this truly, quiet and uniquely tranquil corner of the Welsh Marches where they offer award-winning breakfasts, deeply comfortable beds and delicious dinners – a rural retreat with a difference!
Arrive in time for afternoon tea and cake, relax in the drawing room in front of the fire, rest in the cosy bedrooms and eat delicious food around the hand-made oak table in the dining room.
Lower Buckton is perfectly placed for exploring the area whether it’s by car, on foot, cycle and horse. Collection can be arranged from Ludlow Railway Station and there are buses between Knighton and Ludlow. The scenic Heart of Wales line is just up the lane in Bucknell from where you can catch a train to explore Church Stretton and Shrewsbury or run down the line through glorious mid Wales. Leintwardine village with shops, pub, PO & fuel is a mile away. The ancient market towns of Ludlow, Leominster, Presteigne, Knighton, Clun and Bishops Castle are just a spit away. There are historic castles, churches, houses, gardens and the most spectacular walking and world-class riding country just waiting to be discovered and explored.
