St Edmund Hall, Oxford description
School / College / Library
Medium (1-150)
At St Edmund Hall we encourage intellectual curiosity and debate, adventurousness, and the enjoyment of ideas exchanged between disciplines. Our students thrive in the supportive and intellectually challenging environment of a college firmly dedicated to the tutorial system, but employing a variety of other teaching methods. They also find time for a wide range of extra-curricular interests, including music, journalism drama, art, creative writing, sport and charitable activities.
St Edmund Hall is a college of the University of Oxford, although it retains its distinctive ancient title of 'Hall', which dates back to the thirteenth century, before most other colleges had been founded.
Modern and progressive in its outlook, our College furthers scholarship in a range of Arts and Sciences subjects. We offer a matchless chance to live in the heart of Oxford, to be taught by tutors of recognised distinction in their fields and to enjoy being part of an energetic and varied community.
At present we comprise around 450 undergraduates, 250 graduates and 70 Fellows. Our undergraduates come from all backgrounds and include students from both the UK and further afield. Our graduate population is an equally diverse body of students studying a wide range of subjects at Masters and doctoral level.
St Edmund Hall graduates around the world have forged successful careers in fields such as law, medicine, journalism, science, the city, public service and the arts, prepared and inspired by their time at the College.
