The Cumberland Hotel description
Hotel / Conference Centre
Medium (1-150)
Our comfortable rooms were fully refurbished in 2006, and all offer en-suite bathrooms, hairdryers, colour television and tea and coffee making facilities. The five bedrooms that we have comprise three double rooms and two twins, three of these are classified as 'family rooms', with extra single beds. All of our rooms have free WiFi access. In November 2008 we were awarded 3 stars by Visit Britain in the 'Inn' category of Guest Accommodation.
When it comes to food and drink, we concentrate on doing the simple things well. Bar meals are prepared with locally sourced ingredients where possible. Our increasingly popular food is enjoyed by visitors and locals alike. We can cater for parties and special occasions with a special four course meal, or more simply a snack for two when you haven't the energy to cook for yourself.
Our bar is fully stocked with an emphasis on Real Ales and Cider. Regarded by the local Campaign for Real Ale Branch as a 'must visit', we have the best range of cask conditioned ale in Alston. The Branch voted us Pub of the Year for 2009, 2010 & 2011. The Cumberland has now been in the CAMRA Good Beer Guide for 9 consecutive years.
During your stay, take one of our packed lunches with you when you walk the Pennine Way , cycle the C2C route, or explore the North Pennines. The River South Tyne, just to the rear of the Cumberland, offers good fishing for Salmon, Sea Trout and Wild Brown Trout. You are virtually guaranteed the river to your self! Alston Moor boasts the highest golf course in Britain. Nine holes on quite a slope - give it a try if you dare. Or hire a bike and use The Cumberland as a base for your cycling holiday.
Pets are welcome in our bedrooms and bar.
