Around and About

Ampthill Park is situated on the top of the Greensand Ridge with impressive views to the north over the Marston Vale. It has probably been parkland since the 15th Century when Ampthill Castle was built on the crest of the ridge, which can now only be identified by a slight unevenness in the ground, and Katherine's Cross (a monument erected to commemorate Katherine of Aragon's imprisonment in the Castle) is sited on top of the castle foundations. By the late 18th century the Park was associated with Park House and was landscaped by Capability Brown.

Woburn is a delightful country village with a mix of architecture ranging from Elizabeth to Victorian. It has excellent art and antique galleries.

Woburn Abbey and its adjoining animal safari park offer the whole family an interesting and entertaining day in a beautiful setting. For the golfer Woburn Golf and Country Club, home of the Dunhill Masters tournament, has two of the finest courses in the country.

The city of Milton Keynes is close by with its exciting shopping mall and ten screen cinema complex and fast trains connect to London just an hour away. If you wish to drive the M1 motorway is but two miles distant.

Ampthill is also very centrally placed to visit the Cotswolds and the university cities of Oxford and Cambridge
