Boconnoc House & Estate - Marquee Venue description

Marquee Venue

Medium (1-150)

Boconnoc is a country estate in South East Cornwall tucked down two miles of private roads. The main house and grounds are available to hire for anything from a candle-lit dinner for two, to a house party for 18 guests or a wedding or party for up to 240 guests. We also have self-catering holiday cottages.

The late owner of Boconnoc, Anthony Fortescue, was determined to restore the dilapidated main house to its former glory as it had been uninhabited since the 1950s. He poured huge energy, together with his wife Elizabeth and daughters Clare and Sarah into bringing it back to life so that others could enjoy its magic, space and tranquillity. The restoration project of the house took 12 years of hard work with a fantastic team of craftsman and builders.

Anthony loved to welcome everybody into the house, which is at its best when filled with people and laughter. This is something that the family want to continue for the decades to come.

Boconnoc House was awarded the Historic Houses Association / Sotheby’s Restoration Award and the Georgian Group Architectural Award for the Restoration of a Country Mansion in 2012. A great accolade after the years of work.

As Boconnoc is a family-run business, we offer total flexibility and versatility, nothing is too much trouble and we want everyone to experience the hidden beauty of the place. This unique setting is a wonderful escape from the busy outside world.

Boconnoc is located 15 minutes from Bodmin and 40 minutes from Newquay airport, within easy reach of both the north and south coasts. There is a deer park within the grounds and the gardens are open to visitors on Sundays in May, when they are bursting with reds, pinks and yellows in the Spring and early Summer with the rhododendrons, azaleas and camelias are in flower. Group visits to the house, church and garden can be arranged at any time of the year. The Estate has been used for numerous film locations including the Rosamund Pilcher’s – Indian Bride, Happiness Unbridled, Questions of the Heart, Love on the Horizon and English Wine, scenes from the 1993 film of ‘The Three Musketeers’ and the BBC 2 production of ‘Daphne’.
