In 1337 it was sold to William Botreaux from Cornwall and a descendant, Elizabeth, rebuilt the neighbouring church in the early 1400’s, and founded a college for priests in 1427 in the house, though this was never established.
Sir Francis Hastings leased the building from his brother, the Earl of Huntingdon and in 1580’s built the large Elizabethan mansion, before it was sold in 1596 to Matthew Ewens, a Baron of the Exchequer.
There is so much fun to be had here, you'll have no excuse to be bored for a minute!
- Croquet. Outside the morning room.
- Tennis (hardcourt). Surrounded by fruit trees within within our Georgian walled garden.
- Tennis (lawn). Two historic lawn tennis courts.
- Golf. We are perhaps the only country house in England with a three hole golf course set around the lake, with the first tee from the roof.
- Fishing. Coarse fish and fly fish in our own lakes.
- Swimming. Swim in our heated indoor pool with sliding glass doors opening onto a patio.
- Jacuzzi. Relax in our 10 seater jacuzzi.
- Gym. Work up a sweat in our well equiped gym.
- Sauna. You can work up an even greater sweat in our sauna.
- Walking. There are many lovely walks from the court including a walk up Cadbury Hill Fort where you could be standing on the site of King Arthur's Camelot.
- Cycling. Take one of our bicycles and explore the typical Somerset villages in the area, many with their typical country pubs.

Our Morning Room faces south and east and is bright throughout the day. With large double doors leading into the grounds it makes a perfect room to return to for morning coffee or afternoon tea after a stroll in the grounds.

We have a large family kitchen, fully fitted and equipped (including a 6 oven Aga cooker) to enable self-catering for 40 plus people. In addition we have a kitchen for caterers with two six burner commercial ovens and two hot cupboards, a cold room for preparation and a room fitted with a fast pass through commercial dishwasher.

When the formal part of the day is over you have the opportunity to dance the rest of the night away in our basement disco. It is equipped with disco lighting, a full sound system, including a twin iPod mixing desk, and a smoke machine.
