On the edge of a small hamlet, 6.5 miles west of Saffron Walden, Duddenhoe End Village Hall opened in 1931 and is believed to be the oldest purpose-built village hall in Essex It serves the scattered hamlets of Duddenhoe End, Upper and Lower Pond Street, and Wenden Lofts. The community no longer has a pub or village shop so the hall is a focal point for bringing people together. The building underwent a £30,000 refurbishment in 2012 to provide a fresh, welcoming and comfortable venue that retains its charm.
