Pagham Football Club description
Sports Club - Other
Medium (1-150)
The “Lions” were formed in 1903 starting their playing history in the local Bognor & Chichester Football league, making steady progress in the ensuing years. It wasn’t until 1966 that the 1st real honours came into the club when we were very proud to be crowned Champions of the West Sussex Premier League, repeating the feat again in 1969 & 1970. During this time they also added the Sussex Intermediate Cup in 1967 & 1969.We gained entry into Division 2 of the County League in 1970. In this inaugural season we just missed out on Promotion & found ourselves semi finalists in the Sussex Senior cup. Following on to two successive seasons finishing 3rd a downwards spiral set in which ended in us having to apply for re-election to the league in 1977.Following the rebuilding of the team in the 1978 season we finished 3rd, but the following year we were to Champions of Division 2. We were then Champions this time of Division 1 only 2 years later, but sadly only to be relegated in 1984.The 1985 season saw us finish 3rd having also won the division 2 cup this being for the 2nd time after the success in 1972.1987 Saw us win the 2nd division title and this was followed up by having back to back division 1 titles in 1988 & 1989, we also this year won the RUR Cup. In the years to come the club was never out of the top half of the table other than the 1999-2000 seasons. The 1980’s also saw good times for the reserve side as they won the reserve section in 1981 & followed it up.In the Reserve Cup they were winners in 1978/81/88/89 and again 1991 & 1996. Come 2003, and Pagham Football Club’s centenary year promised much but delivered very little. With Graham Peach handing the chairman ship over to Steve Newdick, the club still had a familiar face in the Boardroom. The 2003/04 Season however, saw us finish in the bottom 3 but were lucky enough to be spared the drop by St.Leonards FC going into liquidation, but there was no escape in the 2004/05 season however as the “Lions” dropped back into division 2
