In 1968 at a meeting of the Parish Council of Aldingbourne it was agreed that there was a definite need to build a modern community centre to serve the village. 12 years later, and at a cost of £100,000,David Purley Aldingbourne Community Centre was completed. It was officially opened on 29th March 1980 by local racing driver David Purley the son of Charles Purley, the founder of LEC Refrigeration.
The Centre is built on the playing fields originally managed by the Aldingbourne Sports Council. In 1972 the Sports Council formed the 200 Club to raise money for the project. Concise Construction Ltd of Barnham were given the contract and together with Mr Peter Lovett plans were drawn up.
