Read Cricket Club was formed in 1878 and is a founder member of the Ribblesdale League.

The villages of Read & Simonstone make up a small community with no more than 1,200 households. For a community of that size, the success and size of the club is remarkable.

The club has been based at its Whalley Road, Read location throughout its history. The ground itself is geographically at the centre of the village and despite being on the smaller side has a deserved reputation for the quality of its playing surface and attractiveness in its upkeep. It was voted the Best Kept Village Cricket Ground in Lancashire in 2007. This is achieved through the skill, dedication and commitment of a small team of groundsmen.
