The Coachhouse was originally built in 1857 as a carriage house as part of the adjoining Ottery Farm now renamed Ottery House. It was designed by the Duke of Bedford, who owned extensive estates in the area, to form part of a 'model farm'. In 1988 the building was sold and the previous owners, Ed and Merl Stevens renovated it and turned it into a family home and later converted it to a small hotel.

The hotel has free Wi-fi available in the bar and lounge and most of the bedrooms in the main building. There is a well stocked bar, lounge and restaurant which is south facing and overlooks a sunken walled garden created from a dilapidated barn. All bedrooms have en suite shower rooms, central heating, flat screen digital TV, radios and hospitality trays. There are two free car parks one behind the other with spaces for at least twenty cars.
