Whitehaven is situated on the West Coast of Cumbria having historical connections with the coal and seaport industries.
In recent years it is famous for its Maritime Festivals which attracted thousands of visitors to see the "Tall Ships"
The Club was originally established as far back as 1824. In 1856 the Club hosted All England XI and played further fixtures in 1858, 1866, 1868 while Cumberland v Northumberland in 1874 and 1878. In 1881 the club played United XI and Cumberland v Australia in 1921 followed in 1927 Cumberland v New Zealand. These were very prestigous matches.
During the 50s/60s/70s it hosted Minor Counties matches and now annually hosts a County U17 Championship fixture.
