Built in 1877 for a wealthy wine merchant the Pinegrove Hotel has many original features such as the tiled entrance hall and ornate cornices. A stained glass window was added on the first floor landing in 1892.

After a period, when the Bishop of Carlisle owned the property and used it as a ‘Monks Haven’, Pencarl House became The Pinegrove Hotel.

The original Victorian house was extended in the 1980s to comprise of a Bar/Dining area, 27 en-suite letting rooms and a large Function room, while trying to maintain its period feel.

The Pinegrove is run by its owner and local staff who provide a warm and friendly welcome to all, whether staying overnight or just popping in for food and drink.

The Pinegrove is conveniently located on the A6 between junction 42 of the M6 and Carlisle city centre. The city boasts many historic features such as the Castle and Cathedral, and the Pinegrove is an ideal base for visiting the Roman Wall, Lake District and Border country.
