Limavady Recreation Club was the brain child in 1912 of three friends and local businessmen who on their habitual Sunday evening walks conceived the idea of a children’s playground on a suitable site in the town suburbs. The initial realization of these dreams resulted in a bowling green, three clay tennis courts and a small pavilion for shelter on the present Killane Road site, leased from a local landowner. On May 1st 1913, the flag was unfurled for the first time!

Throughout the vicissitudes of Bowling and Tennis fortunes, the club facilities, thanks to the enthusiasm and commitment of a succession of enterprising men and women, have undergone a constant stream of improvements over the years. The original pavilion has been replaced twice and extended and refurbished a number of times to achieve the clubhouse we see today – complete with fully hygiene-compliant catering facilities, function room, well-equipped bar, changing rooms, showers and committee room. The grounds have seen similar improvements with updated security and lighting, mature flower beds, drinking fountain, spectator seating, tarmac car park and new boundary fencing. The bowling green has been maintained to a very high standard with the recent addition of floodlights, and the tennis courts, whilst lapsing into disuse for a number of years, were reestablished with the latest all-weather surface and floodlighting in 1994 and have been renewed again in 2007.
