Crichton Church description
Community Hall
Medium (1-150)
In 1888, the board of the Crichton Royal Hospital appointed Sydney Mitchell to design a church. The initial budget was five thousand pounds and it was decided the church should be in gothic or pointed style to seat 450 people and contain a mortuary chapel. An early design showing a spire was rejected. In 1890 plans were approved and some 100 men were employed to build the church supervised by the Clerk of Works, John Davidson. The Crichton Memorial Church, completed in 1897 at six times the original budget is a magnificent cathedral style building in the gothic style. The Crichton Church sits in 100 acres of parkland on the outskirts of Dumfries. Adjacent to Easterbrook Hall and The Holiday Inn Dumfries, this splendid gothic like cathedral provides a spectacular location for a variety of events. With no fixed pews it offers flexibility for a range of setups and events, such as award ceremonies, music recitals, gala dinners and even additional break out space for conferences held in Easterbrook Hall. With accommodation and conference space an easy stroll away, The Crichton Church provides event organisers a complete package for a successful event.
