Thurnby Memorial Hall
Thurnby Memorial Hall - Thurnby Memorial Hall
Thurnby Memorial Hall description
Village Hall
Medium (1-150)
Thurnby Memorial Hall is the largest and oldest-established local community facility, intended for use by all local residents without regard to their backgrounds. Whilst it is close to St Luke's Church and well used by the church, it is an independent facility and not a church hall.
Accommodation is available at our hall in four different sized rooms: the main hall has a curtained stage. There are disabled access and toilet facilities. Booking enquiries are welcomed for both daytime, evening and week-end events. Local community and activity groups run on a non-profit basis are given preferential charging rates.
Activities run at the hall include keep fit classes, bridge groups, an art class, table-tennis, bingo, W I, Mothers Union, ladies Monday Club, children's performing arts, Sunday School, yoga, and cheer leaders. Join in or start your own interest group.
Social functions for up to 100 people can be accommodated, such as wedding, anniversary or birthday receptions, or children's parties. There is a well-fitted kitchen and a licensed bar can be made available. Contact Carol Branson on 0116 241 2914 (evenings and weekends) or 0777 598 5936 to enquire about a booking or just to look round and see what is available.
The Chairman of Trustees is David Chiddick, who can be contacted on 0116 241 8083; Pat Chamberlain is Vice-Chairman 0116 243 4424; Jeff Rosenthal is the Secretary 241 5041; Jean Critchley is the Treasurer 241 6671.
The Trustees have reached an agreement with the School Governors for hall users to have access to the car park at the school entrance out of school hours. This holds up to 12 cars. The car park adjacent to the hall will hold 8 cars if carefully parked. These arrangements mean that hall users have up to 20 off-street parking spaces.
The Memorial Hall is run by volunteer Trustees and representatives of users as a Charity for use by the whole community, in accordance with its long-established constitution. No public funds are made available towards the running costs, so the hall relies entirely on rental income from users to meet running costs, repairs and maintenance.
