Shanklin & Sandown Golf Club description
Sports Club - Golf
Medium (1-150)
We are committed to promoting a friendly atmosphere in our modern, well appointed, clubhouse and to providing quality and excellence on our unique golf course, where our aim is to present the perfect venue for the perfect, but challenging, round.
Men and women with vision and sensitivity have, over the past 100 years, fashioned our Club into what it is today. We are a Club for the whole family, a place for fun, fitness and the chance to enjoy a James Braid course that guarantees to provide an exceptional challenge for high and low handicappers alike.
Although not long at just over 6000 yards, the tight tree lined fairways and protected greens, set in a beautiful heathland setting, require good course management to enable you to return successful scores. We pride ourselves on providing golfers of all abilities, individual and uniquely challenging golf holes – ideal for all levels of competition, practice or tuition.
The course is maintained to a very high standard and our greens are regularly hand mowed, providing an excellent putting surface. There are fantastic views of the surrounding downs at every turn, providing a truly beautiful aesthetic backdrop to the course. The free draining heathland soil ensures it is playable throughout the year providing, without doubt, an outstanding place to play golf in any season.
Shanklin & Sandown is ranked 7th in Hampshire by the the Top 100 Golf Courses of the World. We have also been rated as one of the Britain’s best 100 Courses under £50 (National Club Golfer – February 2012).
Besides playing the course, visitors can enjoy full use of the modern Clubhouse, the 19th hole, our catering facilities and our elevated balcony overlooking the par 3 ninth hole. Visit our well stocked Pro Shop where we provide a wide range of golf clothing and equipment, combined with expert tuition by our golf team headed by our Resident Professional Peter Hammond.
