Situated in Hornhill about a mile from the village of Chalfont St Peter and around the same from Maple Cross and the M25 sits the Dumb Bell, a quintessential "roses around the door" traditional country pub. This gem is a local, lively, friendly favourite popular with families, students. real ale enthusiasts and diners. There is a roasting log fire when chilly, good parking, a huge garden and quiet patio area with great views across the valley.
Children are welcome and well catered for with their own menu offering 100 different combinations at only £2.50, an ice cream menu and goody bags. There is a bouncy castle, goal posts, swings and slides.
Quality home-cooked food in abundance is available 7 days a week from 12 noon to 9pm alongside weekly specials using locally sourced ingredients wherever possible.
The Sunday Carvery is renowned and kids under 5 and baby food are free. The menu is variable making use of local produce and includes vegetarian and gluten free products. During the summer we hold regular barbecues and Hog Roasts.
On "Clucking Monday" we serve a whole Spatcock Chicken with chips and a glass of house wine for £7 or 2 for £12. On Tuesday's enjoy a Curry and a pint for only £8 and Wednesday nights are Pizza and a pint. Thursday night is Pie Night, when there is a different and delicious home made pie available every week. On Friday's we serve good old fashioned fish and chips wrapped in paper for only £5 and we have a sizzling deal on Saturday. For just £10 you can enjoy an 8oz Rib Eye steak and chips served in a sizzling dish.
Many of the thousands of walkers who enjoy the country lanes use the Dumb Bell as a base for their outing, starting with a morning coffee and culminating with lunch, afternoon cream tea or a barbecue. Disabled facilities are available with easy access to the restaurant or other snug areas. Over 60's and regulars get a 20% discount Monday to Thursday and students get 10% and other incentives. Parties, weddings and all functions can be catered for.
The Dumb Bell is dog and welly friendly and we even sell a special treat for dogs, so they don't need to go hungry whilst their owners eat. £1 buys a bag of specially selected dog treats.
