Highworth Community Centre, Highworth description
Community Hall
Medium (1-150)
Welcome to Highworth Community Centre.
Following the unfortunate closure of Northview primary school, the residents of Highworth invited Highworth Community Partnership Group (HCPG) to investigate the possibility of opening a community centre. The alternative was to board up the school. After much hard work and long negotiations with Swindon Borough Council the Highworth Community Centre was formally opened by Justin Tomlinson MP for North Swindon and Councillor Ray Ballman, Mayor of Swindon in June 2011.
The Centre is wholly run by volunteers and is managed by a team of five trustees.
Thanks to the sterling efforts of Swindon’s Community Payback team the building has been painted throughout and provides bright, clean and welcoming accommodation.
As well as the hall and 7 rooms for hire the centre boasts a sizeable field, children’s trim track/play area, woodland area and a pond.
Everyone is welcome to use the Centre and over the next few years we shall be seeking volunteers to help us to expand our activities to cover all ages and all groups throughout the day. If you have a bright idea or if you would just like to help, then do not hesitate to contact us.
In the meantime we would like to thank Highworth Community Church for having sufficient faith in us to provide a long term commitment.
Other organisations that have helped us to get started include:
Swindon Borough Council for their advice and support
Talk Talk who have provided us with our first sponsorship deal, which means we were able to purchase 5 computers.
Unite the union who have provide another 6 computers.
Please use your Centre and enjoy it!
