The Sun Inn, Dorchester description
Pub / Restaurant
Medium (1-150)
Built on land once owned by Henry VIII who gave it to the Earl of Ilchester, the surrounding farmlands are still owned by the Ilchester Estates. The Sun Inn is a 17th Century pub, which doubled as the blacksmiths at various times in the past. It is set in lovely Dorset countryside less than a mile from Dorchester on the Old Sherborne Road at Lower Burton.
Now a family owned Free House run by Shelley and staff, offering genuine hospitality with the emphasis on simple, but great food and drink. There is a new larger menu for this winter with an excellent selection, from sizzling Fajitas or Venison Sausages to Sirlion & Stilton Salad or chicken and avocado Ciabatta, an extensive vegetarian selection and lots more to run alongside the carvery and all 7 days a week. There are also the Chef's daily blackboard specials and a fine selection of wines by the glass there is something for everyone.
Ideal for both the sunny summer months with a great front courtyard, rear patio area and garden, which also has a play area for the children. In the winter the roaring log fires are alight every day to welcome and warm you. The pub has two large well-lit car parks, disabled access and families are welcome.
