The village hall has one main room with a south facing aspect. The southern side is well provided with windows and a french door, admitting lots of good light. The room is much appreciated by art and craft classes. There are also windows on the northern side which provide balanced lighting conditions during daylight hours.
At night three separate areas of the room may be independently illuminated to provide the required mood and there are coloured spotlights round the edges of the room.
There is a well equipped kitchen in the north west corner with fitted cupboards and drawers and plentiful work tops. It has an electric cooker, a fridge, a hot water boiler and a kettle.
The hall is entered from the south east through a large heated entrance hall with coat hooks.
There are two unisex toilets off the entrance hall in the north east.
Hirers of the hall have the whole building to themselves during the period of hire which includes setting up time and clearing up time.

Face Lift
28 August 2020
We have taken advantage of the Covid-19 lock down to do some necessary repair work and make some improvements.
In the main hall and the toilet area the floors have been repaired and upgraded. The walls of the main hall have been lined and insulated, the ceiling has been modernised and LED lights installed. The heaters have been replaced with more modern (and hopefully) more economical versions. So the room should be cosy and warm whatever the weather.
The colour scheme is light and bright and further lifted with orange coloured roman blinds. New, brightly coloured chairs are on order.
New unisex toilets, with modern close coupled equipment and up to date water heaters for the wash-hand basins, have been reshaped to provide a spacious entrance hall.
We hope the results will be pleasing to the eye and make the hall more user friendly. It has been completely re-decorated inside and out.
Initially the capacity of the hall will be less than it was as a result of social distancing guidance. Special conditions for hiring the hall and risk assessments for hirers have been developed. We expect this may cause a change in the usage of the hall. It may be a while before people feel able to avail themselves of the facilities but we are open for bookings from the beginning of September.
P.S. 60 Brightly coloured chairs are now in situ, 56 in the hall and 4 in the entrance lobby. When not in use the chairs in the hall store away neatly in 8 stacks of 7 at the back of the room.

The Origins of Clifton Newall Hall
In 1965/1966 the International Wool Secretariat of Australia decided to build its main research facility in Ilkley, West Yorkshire with all the laboratory and pilot plant equipment needed to assist in research and developments for promoting Australian wool. The very large building site required a site office to facilitate this operation, and this office was procured and erected as our village hall.
Bill Spence, a joiner and builder from Clifton, was working on the research facility in Ilkley and he deposited £20 to secure the building - at that time, a weeks wages!! In due course, Bill and his son, Paul, supervised the erection of the building. Funds were raised by the villagers of Newall with Clifton by years of whist-drives, bring and buy events and cake stalls. A very big thank you to those people. Today, we are still using the original office, although it is constantly being updated. The hall has recently been refurbished.
The following are just some of the positive comments we have received from people who have hired the hall:
Just wanted to say thanks for all your help and for squeezing us in. What a beautiful spot, everyone especially Woody enjoyed every minute of his party, the bouncy castle went down well and ran very smoothly. We hope to book again in future and enjoy the super hall again. Best wishes, Josie x
