Westmuir Village Hall, which was built in 1933 has, over the past year, had several significant improvements carried out to the fabric of the building and surrounds. The recently completed project, grant assisted by the Angus Community Grant Scheme, provided the hall with a welcoming entrance porch, a new fire escape door together with external escape / circulation ramps and paths in concrete paving which are suitable for wheelchairs. Internally, hot water provision in the toilets has improved, a baby changing facility has now been provided and the toilet cubicle renewed in the ladies toilet. To finish the job off all of the external walls, doors and windows have been repainted.


The Porch is a great boon for mothers (and fathers) turning up for ‘Tots’Time’ with buggies and prams on a wet day. The baby changing facility is a desirable feature when the youngest of the group need attention. The ramps and new external pathways make the exits safer and smoother and circulation is more user friendly than before. The renewal of the Ladies Toilet Cubicle was long overdue, the existing partition having been the subject of many repairs.
To complete the transformation the external painting makes the hall look fresh and inviting once again. Westmuir Hall has a busy life. It is used by Westmuir WRI, Tots Time and in season, the Tai Chi Club, the Yoga group and the Belly Dancing Group. Fund raising functions are frequently held in the Hall to meet the rising running costs. Local families use the Hall for birthday parties and other social events.

Considering that it is 80 years since the timber hall was constructed it has certainly proved its worth! It is also a reflection of the dedication of the Hall Association and its hard working Committee that the hall is in such good shape and constantly being put to good use. They don’t find it easy and they would welcome a few more assistants.
