Benview Centre, Dumbarton description
Commercial Venue
Medium (1-150)
Ben View Resource Centre originated in a project of St. Patrick’s church nearby. Following the work of an inter-agency steering group, the Resource Centre was formally opened in 1994.
Awards of funding by West Dunbartonshire Council and the Pastoral Care Trust enabled the Centre to appoint a Co-ordinator and to provide wheelchair ramps, a new kitchen, improved toilets etc. Funding from the Unemployed Voluntary Action Fund in 1995 allowed the lunch club to develop further with the appointment of a part-time administrator.
By this time, the Centre was attracting a large number of users, and this expansion was reflected in the increased level of support provided by West Dunbartonshire Council. In 2002, a showering/bathing service was established, and a Care Co-ordinator appointed. In 2003, the Resource Centre acquired charitable status as an independent social care facility (SC024093). In 2004, a service level agreement was signed with West Dunbartonshire Council. In 2005, Ben View became a Company limited by guarantee.
In March 2010 a refurbishment programme on the building began with substantial work being carried out enhance the facilities within the Centre, creating a warm and homely environment for community use. As a result, Ben View has been able to offer more attractive lets in the main premises and in the outhouses.
