Ardrossan Academicals RFC, Ardrossan description
Sports Club - Rugby
Medium (1-150)
It's with great sympathy that Kyle McNulty’s father, Paul has died. Paul had been diagnosed with oesophageal cancer at the end of last year, with a 9 month prognosis. As with most things, he kept news of his illness quiet and private so it came as a shock to many to hear of his death last Monday (6th April).
As the proud father of one of Ardrossan’s stellar youth players, he was hugely supportive of Kyle in his rugby endeavours. While often cutting the figure of a solitary and retiring person, often choosing to spectate just in the company of his faithful West Highland Terrier Hamish, he was an ever present on the touchline from Memorial Field to Murrayfield, encouraging Kyle in his club and representative achievements.
Happy to keep his own counsel, when he was forth coming his words were sage-like. Indeed it was one such wily intervention that was pivotal in getting Kyle onto the pitch- to devastating effect, in Ardrossan u16’s Regional Plate Final winning exploits. Paul fulfilled the complete role as supportive parent, able to maintain Kyle’s enthusiasm and passion for his sport through a long absence with injury. They were regularly in each other’s company on the touchline watching Ardrossan senior games; an opportunity to pass on rugby knowledge, an opportunity to pass on a passion for South African rugby and its heritage.
Those who have had the pleasure of watching Kyle play will know the knowledge has percolated across the generational gap. Fittingly Kyle is rugby touring in South Africa at present; he left resplendent in the Blue Bull’s top, his father’s favourite team.
Our thoughts, prayers and sympathy go out to Kyle, Paul’s wife Jodi and his daughter Wyona.
Funeral Arrangements: Wednesday 22nd April, Holmsford Bridge Crematorium, 12noon.
