Loganlea Miners Club, West Calder description

Community Hall

Medium (1-150)

The Loganlea Miners' Charitable Society has been at the heart of the local community for many years, with many of the village's population registered as members.
We aim to improve the facilities and services available to this former mining community by working in partnership with others to achieve common goals.
Given that the voluntary sector in this area generally lacks resources and an efficient support infrastructure due to funding constraints, the Charitable Society has an important role to play in providing resources and leadership to the community.
We are a registered Scottish Charity, our Charity Number being SCO13063. We exist solely to promote the social and recreational well-being of this former mining community.

Social Club
The Charitable Society's trading arm is called the Loganlea Miners' Welfare Society and Social Club, which through income generation supports this fantastic facility and the entertainment, shows and activities on offer to the members and wider community.
All profits raised by the Pitstop (less tax) are channelled straight back into to the Charitable Society for good causes and building upkeep. You can hire the Function Lounge or one of our smaller multi-purpose rooms to hold an event or meeting.

History
Mineral Oil Company housed the workforce of the first major works in the industry, building 362 houses in the 1860's. Conditions when built were said to be the envy of the neighbouring coal miners. The Sreets adjacent to Loganlea Colliery were named after famous people, many of them scientists e.g Livingstone Street, Watt Street and Faraday Place.
The Mechanics Institute (which had a Library and Games Hall) occupied a large area above the store. The railway station still open today opened in 1866. A Mission Church dated from 1873, the Parish Church was built in 1885. A Public School was built in 1896 and a Roman Catholic School in 1916.
