In his 2006 AGM speech former President Mr. Albert Murray commented that the club is definitely moving into the 22nd. century, and being a founder member of ther club, Albert reminiscent about the good old days.
“1948 in the Year of our Lord“ ( over 60 years ago ) as Albert remembered, there were no sections, never had any intentions of having any sections, poker was the game, poker players and boozers, the latter being in the majority. A darts team was formed which played their games in the Groomsport Orange Hall, with no drink, strictly tea & buns were served.
Albert also remarked how things have progressed since then, 6 Sections existing (now 5), those being Golf, Angling, Turf, Bowling, Snooker and Darts. Even a Welfare Committee exists to visit our sick members. He also stated to the members present, to appreciate the Club they have and he felt saddened for those members who are no longer with us, and the progression and success of the Club they have missed out on.
Albert went on to say this is such a marvellous club with such a great atmosphere about the place. We all get on well together and have great craic, we need to appreciate every minute. Albert also remarked on the attendance of the AGM and praised those regular members who support the club and he reminded the younger members of the club that they all play an integral role in society and to look to the future. He took the opportunity to remind them, they carry the flag and that they are the future role models to bring success to each of the sections.
