Chepstow is an ancient market town situated on the banks of the River Wye. It has many attractions having the first stone built castle in Great Britain after The Norman Conquest in 1066.
Chepstow also has a very famous Race Course where horse races are run at regular intervals throughout the year.
The Town of Chepstow has recently been re-vamped by Monmouthshire County Council and it is now a pleasant place to visit with many shops to browse through, and many places where you can obtain refreshments, the Conservative Club being one of the nicer venues.
Chepstow is also the gateway to The Forest of Dean and The Wye Valley. Tintern Abbey is only 5 miles outside Chepstow.
There are many pleasant riverside walks and it was from the banks of the river at Chepstow that the Chartists were transported to Tasmania. A plaque is on a building of a riverside restaurant.
Chepstow is situated just off the M48 Motorway and Severn Bridges, and is only half an hour from Bristol and Newport.
