Chetham's School of Music description
School / College / Library
Medium (1-150)
Chetham's is a unique and atmospheric location, ideal for events from seminars and meetings private dinners and concerts.
Dating back to 1421, Chetham's was built as a college for the priests of St Mary's Parish Church (now Manchester Cathedral). It is the most complete late-medieval residential complex to survive in the north west of England.
Chetham's is named after its benefactor, Humphrey Chetham, a successful Manchester textile merchant, who left money in his will to purchase the building, and convert it into a school for 40 poor boys, and a library for scholars, the first public library in the English speaking world. Both School and Library opened in 1653.
Our Baronial Hall is one of the best preserved examples of a 15th century medieval hall. It is a fantastic location if you are looking for an unusual venue to entertain guests for a conference, networking event or formal 3-course dinner.
The other rooms in the medieval building are equally impressive for smaller events and intimate private dining.
