Dairsie Castle description
Castle
Medium (1-150)
Dairsie Castle is a unique self-catered property which sleeps 13, is located close to St. Andrews and Edinburgh, and is an ideal setting for a family holiday, a wedding or for exploring the heart of Scotland.
First sited in the 12th Century, Dairsie has been the location of secret Scottish parliaments, military sieges, and safe haven for escapee monarchs (James VI and I in 1583). After a long period of housing the local Archbishops of St. Andrews, and passing through the hands of various Scottish peerage, it became a ruin in the 19th Century. It was bought and rebuilt as a family home in 1992 by the current owner who, whilst ensuring that it had all the modern comforts of a family home, worked hard to restore the castle to its original medieval character.
The interior of Dairsie is infused with interesting artworks and sculptures which tells the story behind the castle. The 6 bedrooms all have a character of their own and the large Great Hall, complete with a medieval-sized fire place, is fit for any feast! On the top floor there is a open Gallery space lined with paintings and antiques, which is perfect for hosting receptions and parties. Or if you just want to relax, there is a cozy carpeted living room with a TV and comfy armchairs.
Dairsie has 6 acres of grounds including a cop with a woodland walk down to the river Eden, a walled herb garden, an orchard and a large open grass area. There is an open garage, originally intended to be a ducat, a watch tower and a large drive which can park about 8 cars.
It is a truly unique property steeped in Scottish history, and one which we welcome you to experience and enjoy!
