The Club was first mooted in 1883 when Miss Gertrude Jackson of Girton College, Cambridge, called a meeting at her Portman Square home, attended by 60 people, to discuss the idea of a club for University Women. It was formally founded in 1886.
Today, The University Women’s Club is wholly owned by its members and remains true to the aspirations of its founders. It provides a welcoming environment and pleasant accommodation in Central London for Graduate, Professional and Business women.

Dress Code:
Members and their guests are expected to adhere to a minimum level of smart casual dress. Please note that shorts and singlets are not permitted in the Dining Room.
VENUE HIRE
The Club can offer a number of elegant rooms to members for weddings, private luncheons, dinners, drinks parties, conferences and meetings.

WEDDINGS
Our beautiful Drawing Room and Library are licensed venues for civil wedding ceremonies.
The entire event from pre-wedding cocktails, through the ceremony, reception and celebrating until late can be held in the same beautiful venue.
Every detail will be taken care of to make your special day unique and particular to you. Our Events Manager will oversee a range of important tasks and will direct the staff involved in your wedding preparations such as florists and chefs, allowing you more free time to prepare for the big day.
