Our iconic Grand Hall is the beating heart of National Museum Cardiff. With its beautiful marble pillars, classical architecture and stunning domed ceiling, it’s hard to find a grander setting for any event in the Welsh capital.

Operating as the main hub of activity during the Museum’s opening hours, outside of hours the space transforms into our largest and most adaptable event-hosting space.

Ideal for hosting gala dinners, awards ceremonies and large receptions, and has space for a dancefloor. Staging set-ups, conference exhibitors and even silent discos are all housed elegantly.

The Grand Hall pairs wonderfully with hiring our Modernist and Impressionist Galleries.

Capacity ranges from 270 for a seated dinner, 300 for a theatre-style layout or 400 standing. Our venue is fully accessible by ramp through the main doors with lifts to each level, including to the bathrooms.

Our beautiful Reardon Smith Lecture theatre, named after former Museum treasurer and president Sir William Reardon Smith who oversaw the completion of National Museum Cardiff, is a hidden treasure of the city.

A favourite with national and international speakers, the space comes equipped with a built-in projector, wall screen and PA system and can accommodate up to 300 delegates. Ideal for lectures, conferences, intimate performances and ceremonies. Featuring two foyer-style entrances, a unique green room, original staging and furnishing. In regard to accessibility, we can host up to 7 wheelchair users and the theatre has an accessible toilet on the same level.

Hosting one of the most impressive collections of modernist and impressionist art in Europe, our Modernist & Impressionist Art Galleries are an elegant and sophisticated space for hosting your event.

Located on the first floor in the heart of the Museum, guests can enjoy drinks receptions sipping on fizz whilst admiring works by world renowned artists such as Monet, Renoir, Van Gogh and Welsh icons Augustus and Gwen John.

With the inclusion of celebrated, priceless pieces from the Welsh national collection, our stunning galleries provide both a unique and engaging setting for receptions, intimate launch evenings, weddings and civil partnerships.

Our galleries are fully accessible with lift access to all floors including bathrooms and have capacity to host up to 300 guests.

PA systems, speakers and other AV equipment are easily accommodated. To entertain your guests, string duos, quartets or a harpist really set the tone for events in these spaces.

Conveniently located in the heart of the city, National Museum Cardiff offers a unique meeting setting unlike any other in the Welsh capital and our flexible meeting rooms can host a variety of meeting set-ups.

Located on the ground floor of the Museum, situated right next door to the Restaurant, our meeting rooms come equipped with inbuilt projectors, screens and PA systems. Perfect for AV presentations and workshops. The rooms come with access to event-only Wi-Fi and we can offer hybrid meetings. With a variety of capacities and set-ups available, please see options below to find the right meeting space for you.

Dylan Thomas Meeting Room
-Fully accessible by ramp through the main doors, with lifts to each level, including the bathrooms and a ramp from the restaurant.
-Maximum capacity for the room is 20.
-Accommodates Board Room meeting or Theatre style.

Augustus & Gwen John Meeting Room
-Maximum capacity for the room is 50.
-Accommodates Board Room meeting, Classroom or Theatre style.

Oriel Suite
-The above spaces can be opened up using built-in sliding walls to create our largest meeting room.
-Fully accessible by ramp through the main doors, with lifts to each level, including the bathrooms and a ramp from the restaurant.
-Maximum capacity for the suite is 80.
-Accommodates 50 board room–style, 80 theatre-style and up to 60 in cabaret style.
