Originally built in 1859-60 for the South Shields Mechanics Institute, this beautiful building has housed South Shields Museum & Art Gallery since 1876. The Museum explores the history of South Tyneside from its industrial heritage and maritime splendour, to the dramatic tales of Catherine Cookson.
The whole venue is available for evening hire for a range of events such as private receptions, corporate hospitality and PR events. Guests can experience a private view of the Museum's galleries whilst enjoying fine food and wine.
South Shields Museum & Art Gallery contains a modern and well-equipped meeting room, which makes an ideal location for training sessions, meetings and seminars. This room is equipped with full data projection facilities and is available for daytime and evening hire.
