Weald & Downland Museum description
Museum
Medium (1-150)
Come and discover traditional buildings in a rural landscape that tell the story of the men, women and children who lived and worked in them over a 950-year period.
You can explore the 40-acre site and visit some of our 50 exhibit buildings. Many of our exhibit houses are furnished to recreate historic domestic interiors.
We have a regular programme of domestic and craft demonstrations, including cooking in our Tudor kitchen; milling flour in our working watermill; blacksmithing in our Victorian smithy; and other demonstrations depending on the season.
The Museum has an extensive artefact collection, which is housed in our award-winning Downland Gridshell Building.
You can walk in the woods, bring the dog, visit the café kiosk or bring a picnic.
The Museum is pleased to be able to offer venue hire to individuals, organisations and businesses, and is the perfect choice for those seeking for an unusual, beautiful and tranquil setting for an event.
The 15th century Crawley Hall and the innovative Jerwood Gridshell space are regularly used for meetings, conferences and team-building days. They are also both licenced for weddings. The Museum’s tranquil surroundings make an ideal change from the usual workplace setting, and delegates are welcome to explore the Museum and take in the atmosphere during break times.
We recommend that you visit us to see the venues for yourself before making a booking. Please ring us on 01243 811464 or email us, and we will be delighted to show you around the Museum and to discuss your individual requirements.
