Highdown Vineyard description
Commercial Venue
Medium (1-150)
Highdown Vineyard nestles on the southern slopes of the South Downs between Littlehampton and Worthing. The vineyard was originally planted in 1985 with six varieties of grapes; three red – Rondo, Dornfelder and Pinot Noir, and three white – Bacchus, Schonberger and Reichensteiner. In 2005 and 2006 there were more plantings of Pinot Noir and an additional white variety – Chardonnay.
The open site enjoys free draining chalk soil and gentle westerly breezes, which ensure a good airflow through the vineyard. Its proximity to the sea means it doesn’t usually suffer from the late which beset so many English vineyards. The site also benefits from being in area with some of the lowest rainfall and highest sunshine in the country.
In terms of English viticulture it is an excellent site. The vineyard leads onto the Downs so it is also the perfect place to start a walk. Our large car park is ideal for coach parties and group visits, the vineyard buildings have disabled access and facilities.
WEDDINGS
Highdown Vineyard offers the perfect backdrop for parties, celebrations and events of all kinds. We have hosted weddings of differing scales and budgets, christening and naming day ceremonies, specialist car rallies, charity fundraiser, craft fairs, birthdays, anniversaries, retirement parties and funeral receptions. Taking great care to make each occasion memorable.
We believe each wedding or party should be unique and offer bespoke yet affordable options. From small intimate functions using the reception rooms in our modern barn to large reception using our beautiful marquee site overlooking the vineyard and South Downs. We offer a range of menus for different budgets, styles and themes to suit each customer.
We believe that individual and unique doesn’t have to equal costly and more importantly if you’re on a budget you shouldn’t be paying for something that you don’t want simply because it comes as part of a package.

From our background in film and TV we have found there are many parallels between organising and arranging filming and organising and arranging a function. Bringing an event together on time, on budget, having it run smoothly as well as incorporating lots of peoples’ ideas are the same whether a camera is rolling or not – and in both cases it’s often a matter of being adaptable and finding solutions!
WEDDINGS LISTS – For those brides and grooms who have already set up homes and don’t want another toaster we offer a wedding list service in the wine shop.
HEN/STAG PARTIES – We are happy to do vineyard tours and tastings, which can be specially adapted to include sparkling wine or combined with lunches or afternoon teas as part of a Hen or Stag weekend in the area.
