In the 1950s Mr Clyde Chappell made a donation of land for the creation of a Village Hall in Mossley. The Hall is the property of the Parish of Congleton. The Hall is currently managed by a Village Hall Committee which is responsible to the Congregational Committee of Holy Trinity Church, Mossley. For more than fifty years it has provided a venue for clubs, societies, public meetings and private parties. In recent years a number of improvements have been made to the Hall including a completely re-fitted kitchen to meet current hygiene and safety legislation. The hall has also undergone further improvements - the walls have been replastered, new wall lights fitted, it has been redecorated and there are further changes to come.
The Chappell Centre
In 2008 Miss Elaine Chappell left a substantial legacy to the Parish of Congleton for the sole use of the Village Hall. After consultation, planning permission was given for additional facilities to be built alongside the Village Hall to be known as the Chappell Centre. A two storey building was constructed providing a Community Lounge and a Community Room equipped with audio visual and internet facilities. It is hoped that these new facilities will complement those of the current Village Hall and nearby Old School Community Centre by providing a more modern and well equipped social amenity for the residents of Mossley.
