A Fortress in the heart of Eastbourne...
One of the South Coast's most historic landmarks, discover over 200 years of history at this Napoleonic Fortress, named one of the top ten military museums in the UK.
Built to defend the South Coast from Napoleon's forces it still stands as a unique monument to that time and now houses the largest military collection of its kind in the south of England, along with a vibrant events programme.
Eastbourne Borough Council's Heritage Service offers a diverse range of activities, from over 200 years of history at the Redoubt Fortress and Military Museum to educational tours and outreach services to schools.

From Anglo-Saxon festivals to archaeological digs and beyond!
The Heritage Service can offer so much for you to get involved with.
Find out more about upcoming archaeological digs, volunteering and training opportunities, archiving projects, our schools programme and the Eastbourne Ancestors exhibition which was unveiled in January 2014.
Work on this ground-breaking exhibition began in 2012, working with Universities and leading reconstruction experts to recreate and trace the history of skeletons found in many of the archaeoloical digs, some dating back to the Bronze Age.
