Gilbert White & The Oates Collections is the perfect Hampshire wedding venue for celebrating your special day, from ceremony to reception, with a variety of informal yet distinctive spaces to hire for a memorable event. Our idyllic setting beneath the famous Selborne ‘Hanger’ of the South Downs National Park is steeped in history, retaining a charm and serenity quite of its own.
Be married in our 16th Century Hampshire Barn, set in a tranquil meadow, where large glass doors open onto the backdrop of the Hampshire South Downs. Adjacent to ample car parking, the barn offers good toilet and cloakroom facilities for your guests.
Or get close to history by solemnising your partnership in the museum’s period rooms and fascinating galleries on Gilbert White, Captain Lawrence Oates and Victorian Explorer Frank Oates. Available to hire for a unique and intimate civil ceremony, these rooms range from the period elegance of the Great Parlour, to our recently renovated exhibition on the Scott Antarctic Expedition.

A charming light filled room in the heart of the museum looking out on to the garden and Selborne hanger. Seating 14 boardroom, or 20 theatre style, with a large flat screen monitor for presentations. After hours, this room can be adapted for intimate 'cocktail' style parties. Due to its position in the house, it is not usually for an event during museum opening hours.
