Smithills Hall description

Smithills Hall is one of the region's finest historic houses. Set in 2,200 acres of woodland on the edge of the West Pennine Moors, the history of Smithills Hall dates back to at least the 14th century.

Entry to the hall is free and there is a pop up Tea Room offering afternoon tea, sandwiches, snacks, cakes and ice cream. Smithills Hall Tea Room is managed by family-run SM Restaurants (North West) Ltd.

The historic setting of Smithills Hall is also the perfect backdrop for your wedding or business event.

Smithills Hall is open Wednesday to Friday, 10am to 4pm and on Sundays noon to 4pm. The tea room will be open seven days a week, from 10am to 5pm.

Medieval Great Hall

Our beautiful medieval Great Hall, with its black and white timbers, high ceiling and flagged stone floor.

Dating back to around 1335, although this impressive room has been altered, repaired and restored over the years, it still retains many medieval features

Withdrawing Room

The great bay window has a decorative ceiling of carved roses and ivy leaves and looks out over the lawns and gardens to the east of the Hall.

The Bower Room

Built on to the Great Hall in the early 1400’s to provide private quarters for the Radcliffe family.

The Dome Room

Built during the Victorian period by the Ainsworth family, this light and airy room has a large glass ceiling dome.
