The Daffodil Hotel & Spa description
Hotel / Conference Centre
Medium (1-150)
Weddings / Conferences / Events
The Daffodil is a warm and welcoming place bringing exploration, relaxation and celebration together against a stunning backdrop of natural beauty.
The redevelopment of the Daffodil Hotel has been a long project with quite a bit of history, this is where it all started...
The old hotel building was built in 1855 by Levi Hodgson and occupied a prominent position on the outskirts of the Village with frontage onto Grasmere Lake.
It was built as a testimony to the 19th Century tourist industry that William Wordsworth did so much to inspire. Hodgson was also responsible for building other impressive buildings still standing in Grasmere - Cragside, The Hollins, and Woodland Crag.
The hotel was originally named ‘Browns Lake Hotel’ after its owner Edward Brown. However shortly after the hotel was opened they had a Royal visitor, The Prince of Wales who later became Edward VII. There was great excitement surrounding the visit and as a result Edward Brown decided to change the name to The Prince of Wales Hotel.
